What is JCCA?
The Junior Competitive Climbing Association (JCCA) is dedicated to bringing competitive climbing to all recreational level climbers. The JCCA is a place where kids come to test their skills, make friends, and have fun! With two seasons per year, JCCA athletes compete in all three climbing disciplines.
WHEN are jcca EVENTS held?
The JCCA has two seasons per year, opposite of USA Climbing’s season calendar. Our goal with this opposition is that athletes who chose to move up to competiting at the USA Climbing level can transition from the discipline they have been competiting in already for a smoother adjustment period. Each JCCA season has at least three qualifiers and a championship for the discipline. Qualifiers are typically once per month, leading up to the championship which takes place before athletes go on summer/winter break.
where are jcca EVENTS held?
All JCCA events are held within Dallas-Fort Worth Movement Gym locations at this time. Bouldering competitions are most frequently hosted in the Carrollton Training Center, Denton, Fort Worth, & The Hill with all rope events taking place at the Design District, Grapevine, or Plano locations.
WHO CAN COMPETE AT JCCA EVENTS?
We welcome climbers under the age of nineteen to compete at JCCA events. There is no experience required to compete! We do not allow USA Climbing Youth Series Competitors to compete in JCCA. However, we do occasionally provide exceptions for athletes who are determining where they’d most like to compete. Please contact us for further discussion.
How does my climber secure season championship Invite?
Climbers must attend two or more qualifiers to receive an automatic invitation to the championship. Remaining championship registration spots may be opened to those with one qualifying event attendance but it is not guaranteed.
HOW IS THE TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP DETERMINED?
Each team earns points based on their athletes' performances. The top ten climbers in each category earn team points according to their rankings. To promote fairness, only the points of each team’s highest-ranked athlete are considered. Ex: if Team A has the top five athletes in the M4 category, only the points from the first-place athlete will be counted for the team's score.
